01 — SaaS projects

Remittance Go

Fintech
Lead developer · Xero verified

Healthcare providers, bookkeepers and accounts teams spend hours each week reconciling batch payments that cover dozens of invoices at once.

I built the product that gives them that time back. An afternoon of manual entry is now a few minutes of review, with fewer errors reaching the books.

As lead developer I own the interface, the matching engine and the Xero integration.

  • Xero App Store verified.

Moddy

Allied health
Lead developer · Several thousand users

Moddy is used by OTs to design disability housing environments.

Built on React, 3js and React Three Fibre. I am the lead application developer for both our 2D and 3D products.

  • Key responsibilities include UX design, geometry, global context design and performance optimisation.
  • Free accounts for OT students; widely used across the UK and Australia.
  • Onboarding, authentication and account tooling for clinics and universities.
02 — What I'm looking for

A front-end role in allied health, healthcare, accounting and Xero-adjacent fintech, or technology more broadly.

I care about how an interface feels to use every day, and about the performance and details that make it delightful to use and return to.

I work well working alongside UX designers or sitting in client feedback meetings to understand their pain points, then scoping this against engineering requirements so that a realistic and stable solution can be acieved. Open to remote or Newcastle based roles.

My main weakness is programming speed. I have compared myself against lead front end engineers and understand I am slower to solve problems. However, I am very passionate about improving and best technical outcomes so I have learned to iterate.

Lead Developer — Remittance Go

Build and maintain the product end to end, from the Xero integration and admin interface through to architecture, API optimisation, authentication and deployment. Work directly with healthcare finance teams on how the product fits their reconciliation process.

Lead Developer — Moddy

I look after the front end and the 3D engine, built with React and React Three Fiber, along with the data model behind therapist projects. I run releases, onboarding and support for several thousand occupational therapists and students, whose work with Moddy goes on to shape accessible and disability housing environments.

Rhys Hughes SEO

Ran my own search and lead generation practice, scaling organic pipelines for Australian service and manufacturing businesses — technical SEO, site architecture, content systems and conversion tracking. Clients included Community Therapy, Orthotics Plus, Felk Engineering and MAXM Skate.

Loved the work and the results, but wanted to return to a technical role and build the software rather than the funnel.

2016 — 2019

Technical Project Officer — University of Newcastle

Audiovisual networking and systems projects across campuses: codebase standardisation for control systems, VLAN and reserved network design, hardware specification and room system design. Documented and rolled out consistent configurations so venues could be supported at scale.

2015

Technical Support Officer — University of Newcastle

Live audiovisual and networking support across all campuses, covering lectures, events and teaching spaces.

2011 — 2014

Technical Support — St Ignatius' College, Riverview

06 — About me

Outside of work: basketball, video games, the gym, my dogs and my family. 2x Coffees, then software.

I love building software because of the responsibility that comes with it. I need to make the right decisions and sympathise with my users so they get the outcome they are after.
